Tending Grief is a live, virtual seasonal series of four, six-week sessions designed to companion you through the many landscapes of loss. Rooted in the wisdom of the animate world, and inspired by the cycles of the year, each course invites you into a deeper, more compassionate relationship with your grief—through creativity, presence, embodied awareness, and ritual.

Together, we will explore grief as a sacred and necessary human experience – an initiation of the heart. We grieve because we love. Drawing on poetry, contemplative practice, and somatic awareness, this course offers a gentle but profound container for metabolizing loss and reconnecting with your innate sense of belonging.

Through guided writing, you will engage both free verse and structured forms—such as haiku and sonnet—as pathways into the language of the soul.

Teacher and grief-tender Frances Weller calls thissoul hygiene”—the essential work of tending what has been left unacknowledged, unfelt, or unintegrated.

You will also be introduced to meditative and body-based practices to help you stay present with your experience, regulate your nervous system, and deepen your capacity to hold what arises with kindness and curiosity.

This course is for anyone who has experienced loss. Grief takes many forms: the death of a loved one, the loss of identity, health, relationship, place, or meaning. In these unprecedented times—when we are more globally connected than ever, yet often feel profoundly alone—learning to tend grief in community is both a personal and collective necessity.

Each session is aligned with a turning point in the natural year:

Solstices mark the extremes—the longest day and the longest night—inviting us into the fullness of light and the depths of darkness.

Equinoxes offer balance—equal day and night—reminding us of the dynamic equilibrium at the heart of life.

By moving in rhythm with these seasonal thresholds, we begin to recognize that grief, too, has its cycles: times of intensity and contraction, times of integration and renewal.

You are welcome to join any or all of the seasonal journeys through grief. Each course stands on its own while also deepening and expanding the sacred work of grief for those who continue.

You are not asked to “move on” from grief, but to learn how to live with it and through it—creatively, consciously, and in community.

The Seasonal Journey

Autumn Session (Equinox) – Letting Go: The Sacred Descent

Autumn (Equinox) — Letting Go: The Sacred Descent
As the light begins to wane, we enter the first movement of grief: acknowledgment and release. This is a season of learning to gently let go—to name what has been lost and allow the outer layers of identity, expectation, and attachment to fall away. Through poetry and practice, you will be guided into the courageous work of turning toward your grief and honoring its presence.

Tending Grief: Winter Session (Solstice) – Holding: The Deep Work of Stillness and Rest

Winter (Solstice) — Holding: The Deep Work of Stillness and Rest
In the longest night, grief asks not to be fixed, but to be held. Winter invites deep rest, reflection, and inner listening. Together, we create a steady, compassionate container where sorrow can be tended with patience. Somatic and contemplative practices support the quiet metabolizing of loss, as winter teaches us how to stop and tend.

Tending Grief: Spring Session (Equinox) – Emerging: Renewal, Meaning, and Possibility

Spring (Equinox) — Emerging: Renewal, Meaning, and Possibility
As the light returns, there is a tender invitation toward life. This season invites hope and integration—an exploration of how loss has shaped you and how life continues to move through you. Moments of creativity, inspiration, connection, and even unexpected joy may arise. Here, grief and vitality begin to coexist, making space for new beginnings and meaning to emerge.

Tending Grief: Summer Session (Solstice) – Belonging: Expression, Connection, and Aliveness

Summer (Solstice) — Belonging: Expression, Connection, and Aliveness
In the fullness of light, grief finds its place within a larger field of aliveness. This is a season of expression, voice, and connection. You are invited to embody what you have discovered and to share your story within a supportive community. Loss becomes part of your lived experience—not something to overcome, but something that deepens your sense of belonging to love.
